My family’s attendance at our own Douglas County Fair was complicated with all of our 4-H entries – vegetables, flowers, dresses, pigs, ducks, calves. The visit to the neighboring Pope County Fair had none of those complications. It also was the county of my father’s family and we came upon not only my grandmother but our dear spinster Great Aunt Annie. I remember how surprised and delighted I was to see her. Young children think the world revolves around them and others are simply waiting in place for us to arrive. There she was -- Smiles wreathed her sweet round face above the prize-winning coxcomb the size of a bushel basket in its humble coffee can vase.
This is a little personal remembrance that I have of Aunt Annie.
